Before evacuation, Jolie met with children affected by the war and visited hospitals and NGOs that help the wounded and displaced.

News of Jolie’s surprise visit to the western city of Lviv went viral on social media.

“Angelina Jolie loves to drink coffee in Lviv [por Lviv]. What are your favorite places to have coffee? The main purpose of your visit is to help Ukraine! Thank you for your support, Jolie, and to everyone who stands with the people of Ukraine today!”, user Natalie Smal said on Twitter, a message replicated by dozens of Ukrainians.

Ukrainian Maya Pidhorodetska posted another video of the famous actress and filmmaker on Facebook. “Nothing special. Only Lviv. I just went for coffee. Only Angelina Jolie ”, she wrote in Ukrainian after filming the actress, who greeted her from the counter. “Ukraine is simply supported by the whole world,” she added. In Pidhorodetska’s clip, Jolie is seen happily talking to locals in Lviv while she wears casual clothes.

The Oscar-winning actress had already committed herself to the war in Europe. Late March, made a surprise visit to Ukrainian children admitted to the Bambino Gesú hospital in Rome and conveyed his concern about the uncertain future they face.

Jolie, who is often present to provide aid in countries in conflict, was able to greet and inquire about the situation of the 31 children from Ukraine who were sheltered due to the war in this pediatric center, the largest in Europe and owned by the Vatican.

The so-called “Pope’s hospital” treated a total of 130 Ukrainian minors since the Russian invasion began on February 24, of which 31 remain admitted to its facilities.

“I pray for the end of this war. That is the only way to stop the suffering and the flight from the conflict zone”, stated the American actress. “It is horrible to see children pay the price, in lost lives, damaged health and trauma.”

Jolie, who according to the media was found in the Italian capital at the end of March for work reasons, also expressed concern about the “uncertain future” that these children face.
