Russian plane detected violating airspace in Denmark

A Russian reconnaissance plane was detected this Sunday violating Danish airspace and the country will summon the Russian ambassador to explain the incident, the head of Danish diplomacy announced today.

“The Russian ambassador was summoned to visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this Monday. A new Russian violation of Danish airspace. This is completely unacceptable and particularly worrying in the current situation”, wrote Jeppe Kofod, on the social network Twitter.

The incident took place on Friday night, when a Russian reconnaissance plane entered Danish airspace east of Bornholm (Danish Baltic island) before entering Swedish airspace, this last part of the episode was released by the defense. Swedish last Saturday.

“It’s a reconnaissance plane that was in our airspace for a very short time. Two Danish F-16s intervened immediately,” Henrique Mortensen, press officer for Danish Defense, told AFP news agency.

The Russian plane then left Danish airspace. Such incidents “rarely happen,” Mortensen added.

Unlike Sweden, where a debate on the matter is ongoing, Denmark is a member of NATO.
