Sally Rooney: what we know about the television adaptation of “Conversations between friends”

We do not yet know the distributor or the release date of Conversations with Friends in France. But in Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States – where the series will be broadcast from this Sunday, May 15, respectively on the public channel RTEon BBC Three and on the streaming platform Hulu –, the press is already buzzing with information about this highly anticipated new adaptation of a novel by Irish writer Sally Rooney.

It is that the previous one, Normal People (available in France on Canal+), “was not a simple success, but a real phenomenon”, remember The Irish Times. Published in English in 2018, the novel Normal People (translated under the same title into French in 2021 by Éditions de l’Olivier) had already earned its author worldwide fame, with more than a million copies sold.

But it was his television version that ended up making the thirty-year-old, a little in spite of herself, “the voice of millennials”. Created by Lenny Abrahamson, the series has established itself as “the major cultural fact of the first confinement”.
