As parents of a child attending Herlufsholm boarding school, they are deeply shocked to hear about systematic bullying and a culture of abuse and violence at the educational institution, the two said in a statement on Instagram.

“As parents, we expect the school to be effective in fostering a culture where everyone is safe and part of the community,” the couple said. Changes are clearly necessary.

Such a statement by representatives of the royal family is very unusual. Experts consider this to be proof of how seriously the Danish royals take the allegations made in a television documentary. Crown Princess Mary’s foundation campaigns intensively against bullying, among other things.

The broadcaster TV2 describes in the documentary “Herlufsholms hemmeligheder” (Herlufsholms Secrets) Cases of physical violence, bullying and sexual abuse at school.

In it, around 50 former students report on offensive experiences they had at the prestigious institution.

Frederik and Mary have not yet commented on whether their son will continue to attend school. His younger sister Isabella (15) is supposed to be a student there from autumn.
