CAMAGÜEY. — With the certainty that in the laboratories, research-development departments and technological lines the relay of the plethora of scientists who have brought glory to the Nation is taking place today, the V Inter-Centre Meeting on Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB).

More than a hundred young people from the four institutions of this type that exist in the country (Havana, Camagüey, Sancti Spiritus and Mariel, in Artemisa) expose here their experiences not only in obtaining vaccines and drugs, but in their vocation of social service within the neighborhoods and communities.

Sponsored by the Union of Young Communists, the event places special emphasis on the role of the base committees as unifying the interests and aspirations of the boys and girls of the sector, who daily assume a leading role in the materialization of important investigative projects. .

By way of example, Iván Andújar Martínez, from the CIGB in Havana, referred to the contribution of young people during the two years of the Covid-19 pandemic, moments of extreme complexity and uncertainty in which the spirit of solidarity and personal disinterest in function of the health and well-being of an entire people.

His intervention was supported by Nemesio González Fernández, director of the CIGB of Camagüey, who presented the achievements of that institution in the research, development and production of bioproducts destined, basically, for the agricultural sector of the country and for export.

“It is up to young people to continue this rich and beautiful tradition,” said Josué García Parrado, after reflecting on the enemy’s attempts to destroy the Revolution: “In the face of hatred and resentment, he said, greater unity and creation are imposed to push the biotechnology industry towards much more promising horizons”.

Six years after his physical disappearance, the V Inter-Centre Meeting for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology is a well-deserved tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, who was the main inspiration for this type of center due to its enormous prospects for health. human and animal.
