Team Antwerp took part in the 3X3 Austria Street Jam in Innsbruck last weekend. Team Antwerp won the final of …. Team Merksem. That is the new team of the 3X3 project of Team Antwerp.

As a final preparation for the 3X3 Basketball World Cup (21-26 June Antwerp/Groenplaats) with the 3X3 Lions, Team Antwerp took part in the 3X3 Austria Street Jam. “On the one hand to stay in the running for World Tour tournaments and on the other hand to present our new team Team Merksem,” said driving force Nick Celis.

Thierry Mariën, Jonas Foerts and Maxime Depuydt still have many individual points and are committed to Team Merksem. “This trio will accompany young talents who play for Team Merksem. They can compete in the FIBA ​​Team 3X3 Pro Circuit. Ideal for developing as a 3X3 player,” said Nick Celis. Thanks to the points of the trio Mariën, Foerts and Depuydt, Team Merksem immediately takes 15th place in the world ranking. Team Antwerp is still third.

At the 3X3 Austria Street Jam in Innsbruck, both teams qualified for the final. Team Antwerp (Celis, Vervoort, Depuydt and De Valck) beat Team Merksem (Bogaerts, Augustijnen, Soontjes) 17-12 in the final. The winner received 550, the second 300 euros. More importantly, both teams have qualified for the 3X3 Austria Tour Finals. It will take place on August 20 and 21 in Vienna and there will be a ticket for the 3X3 World Tour in the French capital Paris (October 7-8).

Sports hall Roosendael in Merksem is now the official home of Team Antwerp and Team Merksem. The 3X3 Lions and 3X3 Cats are also training there this week in preparation for the 3X3 World Championship in Antwerp.
