German food organizations warn of the risk of food shortages in the country. The producers appealed to the authorities of the country with a demand to immediately deal with this issue, since the ongoing crisis in Ukraine and anti-Russian sanctions lead to a further increase in raw materials.
Head of the German Federal Food Industry Association Christian von Boetticher urged the Minister of Agriculture Cema Ozdemira to delve into the situation and engage in crisis management.
According to von Betticher, in the very near future it will no longer be about the cost of finished products, but about whether manufacturers can afford to buy ingredients for it.
Due to unprecedented growth in energy costs, bakery production costs have already jumped by almost a third. Next in line is another rise in the price of meat and milk.
Earlier, the German Association of Social Catering Centers said that by the end of the month, many German families simply would not have the money to buy groceries. It is clear that in this case it was about the least protected segments of the population, but in the future the situation will worsen.
