Two oncoming trucks collided on the B16 on Thursday. Miraculously, only one driver was slightly injured.

“It could have been worse injuries. In this respect one can definitely speak of luck in the misfortune,” said Mario Altmann from the Geisenfeld police station about the accident.

What exactly caused the incident has yet to be determined.

So far, according to Altmann, it is only certain that a 40-year-old truck driver was driving in the direction of Regensburg on Thursday morning when he encountered oncoming traffic with his green semi-trailer.

There he met a 25-year-old trucker with his red truck – driving in the direction of Ingolstadt – and the two trucks collided sideways and frontally with each other.

As a result of the collision, both vehicles veered off the roadway and ended up off the main road in the green area.

The 25-year-old stayed with him accident unharmed. According to previous information, the other 40-year-old truck driver was given medical treatment with minor injuries by the emergency services.

Nevertheless, the all-clear could not yet be given: “All we know is that the truck belonging to the other party involved in the accident was loading vehicle parts. It is not possible to say exactly what the truck was loading from the person who caused the accident.”

However, the latter was powered by methane gas. And that finally led to a large-scale operation of the firefighters. The works fire brigade of a neighboring refinery also sent support.

Alexander Behringer, head of the fire brigade, knows: “Ultimately we are in an explosive zone and had to suppress the fumes.”

However, the escaping water-soluble vapors could be rendered harmless with a spray jet.

From this point on, there was basically no longer any danger for any of those involved, Behringer can reassure.

About the resulting property damage police no specific details yet.
