Krasnodar hosted the Superfinal of the most massive Russian basketball competition among schoolchildren – the Lokobasket – School League tournament. The winners were guys from the team of the Krasnodar Territory and young basketball players from the Republic of Khakassia. The decisive matches were shown live on the federal sports TV channel “Match! Country”.
A big celebration of children’s and youth basketball began in Krasnodar “Basket Hall” on Saturday morning. The participants of the All-Star Game of the Lokostart project were the first to enter the parquet floor of the arena of the local professional club Lokomotiv-Kuban with stands for seven and a half thousand spectators. This is a competition for the youngest players who are just starting their journey in a popular sport. Representatives of the Krasnodar schools were divided into teams “Stars of the East” and “Stars of the West”, and the compositions were mixed, boys and girls played.
The day before, in the match for the third place in the girls’ competition, in the Lokobasket – School League itself, the team from the Leningrad Region defeated their peers from the Krasnodar Territory – 81:39. And in the Saturday final, the national team of the Republic of Khakassia was noticeably stronger than the Rostov region – 69:28.

Then, before the final, the guys had a “Friends Match” that aroused genuine interest among numerous spectators, in which professional athletes known in the past, and not only from basketball, took part. These are the president of PBC Lokomotiv Kuban, who previously played for the Russian national team Andrey Vedischev, the champion of the Euroleague 2006 in CSKA, now the executive director of the Russian Basketball Federation (RFB) Vladimir Dyachok, the Olympic champion of Barcelona-1992 Elena Shvaybovich, the winner of the gold medal in the handball tournament of the Summer Games -2000 Igor Lavrov, Olympic champion in Greco-Roman wrestling Varteres Samurgashev, former WBO world champion boxer Dmitry Pirog and others. Schoolchildren from all 42 teams that came to the Lokobasket superfinal tournament watched this meeting from the stands.
In the main final among the guys, the hosts from the team of the Krasnodar Territory defeated the Volgograd Region – 85:75. The day before, in the meeting for third place, young basketball players from the Voronezh region outplayed the team from the Novosibirsk region – 83:73.
At the solemn awards ceremony, the executive director of the RFB, Vladimir Dyachok, handed over to the president of PBC Lokomotiv-Kuban all the necessary financial documents for granting the club a grant for the development of children’s and youth basketball in the amount of half a million rubles.
The completed competitions were held with the participation of the administration of the Krasnodar Territory and the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of the region. The tournament was organized by Lokobasket – School Basketball League with the support of Russian Railways, Lokomotiv-Kuban, the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Education, the Russian Basketball Federation.
The winners in individual categories were: for boys – MVP (most valuable player) Kirill Vetrov, defender Pavel Ryabkov (both from the Krasnodar Territory), forward Magomednabi Khalilulaev (Volgograd Region), center Semyon Medvedev (Voronezh Region); for schoolgirls – MVP Daria Nikiforova, defender Daria Mironenko (both – Republic of Khakassia), forward Svetlana Yurkevich (Leningrad region), center Yana Borodavka (Rostov region).
“When Lokobasket was just being born, we already knew that it would be a large-scale project. After all, all this is organized for children, and they are our future, the future of our country. Happiness is to see what a holiday this championship is for them,” the president said.
