MADRID, Spain.- The report of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) this Wednesday, on the victims of the explosion at the Hotel Saratoga in the capital, added Susel Torres García to its list of deceased persons. With Torres García, 43 people have died so far.
As learned from family members’ posts on social networks, Susel Torres García, a 50-year-old from Havana, was a waitress at the hotel facility.
On May 6, the day the unfortunate accident took place, a cousin of the victim, identified on Facebook as Yohan RT, published that Torres García was working at the hotel at the time of the incident. He clarified that she worked as a waitress on the seventh floor.
After explaining that he did not appear at the Calixto García hospital or at the Hermanos Ameijeiras hospital, asked people who might have information to contact him.
The daughter of the deceased, Susel Kindelán, also had asked for help: “My mom doesn’t show up. She works at the Saratoga Hotel and she was there today. Someone who knows, please call me. Help me find her.”
Upon confirming the death of his cousin, Yohan RT wrote on Facebook: “Unfortunately my cousin Susel was found dead. Light to her soul and may she rest in peace. Light and strength for all the families that have been damaged by this terrible catastrophe of the Hotel Saratoga”.
Status of people injured by explosion in the Saratoga
According to the latest part of the MINSAP, so far 97 injured people have been registered, 16 are hospitalized and 38 patients have been discharged.
Two workers from the Hotel Saratoga are still missing.
At the time of the accident, 51 employees were inside the building working for its reopening. The hotel would reopen on May 10 after two years closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The explosion allegedly occurred when a liquefied gas tanker truck was refilling a hotel tank.
