Tibor Navracsics: Let Lake Balaton be covered

The politician then made a statement on Hungarian Nationthat he has had several talks with EU politicians in recent days. He explained that the discussions so far have been in a good mood and fruitful, although liberal politicians, unlike the commissioners of the European People’s Party, have devoted relatively more time to criticizing the Hungarian government than to actual issues.

Tibor Navracsics also stated that he would continue to adhere to the opinion that a national plan allowing access to the recovery fund would be adopted later this year. He added that it was clear that funds were being withheld for political reasons.

Although this is not officially stated, it is clear from the unofficial channels that there are political conditions for this.

He told the politician, adding that the European Commission had notified the Hungarian government in early April (shortly after the Hungarian parliamentary elections) that a decree on the conditionality linking EU funds to the rule of law was being enacted.

Tibor Navracsics also added that the Hungarian government must respond to the European Commission’s letter by June 27. “And although it is said that the two have nothing to do with each other, it is clear to me that the arguments and statements set out in this reply could speed up or slow down, help or delay our negotiations on the adoption of the national plan,” he added. the signing of a partnership cooperation on the multiannual financial framework, which will make it possible to finance operational programs.

I would like us to be able to achieve this as a first step, as it is perhaps of a less political nature, and then we can turn to the negotiations on the recovery fund. And yes, political negotiations will obviously be necessary here, and political debates can be expected.

Said Tibor Navracsics.

The Minister also pointed out that if Hungary, like the Polish government, which has recently made significant progress on the same issue, has access to the funds, a strong uproar is expected from Western liberals.

“Liberal MPs in the European Parliament have already initiated a motion of censure to table a motion of censure on the committee for nodding at the Polish national plan. This is a good indicator that a very sharp reaction is expected from the EU Parliament in connection with the Hungarian national plan as well, ”he said.

Tibor Navracsics also spoke about how he sees Hungarian politics after he became minister again eight years later. He also mentioned that there is no practical communication between pro-government and opposition MPs today, “although at a time when pandemics, war and economic challenges are hampering the country’s development trajectory, I still believe that dialogue is urgently needed”.

We will not always agree, and sharp debates are inevitable in some cases, but direct communication must be maintained, because not talking to each other will increase mistrust and distrust will lead to a worse country.

He expressed his opinion.

It is a matter of the heart to be able to cover Lake Balaton

Speaking about his other ministerial responsibility, regional development, Tibor Navracsics said that their goal is to thoroughly analyze all Hungarian regions and tell them what improvements are needed there.

The goal, then, is to be able to provide smarter responses to different needs in different parts of the country

– said the Minister.

At the end of the interview, Tibor Navracsics also reported that his secret desire is that sooner or later without a transfer Lake Balaton can be covered.

This would also offer excellent opportunities as a tourist attraction, just like tram 2 in Budapest, on the route of which, in addition to the locals, millions of tourists enjoy the panorama. Even if I can’t achieve this during my term of office, I’m confident that I will at least get closer to it.

He said, adding that he considered it important to electrify railways, develop motorways and expressways, and to pursue “an investment-friendly policy in the east of the country, the results of which are now clear”.
