The engineer attended a mass at the Basilica Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Chiquinquirá, in Boyacá. He arrived accompanied by his wife, Socorro Oliveros, and his mother, Cecilia Suárez. The reason for the engineer’s visit was to apologize for the allusion he made a few weeks ago to the Virgin Mary in an inappropriate context.

“With several women we were in front of the Basilica very respectfully putting up posters to ask for respect for the Virgin Mary because the engineer had treated her badly. We didn’t even speak, when the mass was over, the people who accompanied him came out and tore up our posters,” said one of the young women who was protesting.

Due to the controversial statements of Rodolfo Hernández, the lawyer William Hoanny Amador processed a request for excommunication of the Catholic Church against the candidate considering that he referred “in a rude, blasphemous and deeply offensive way”.
