He set out for the EU summit in Brussels starting on Thursday Viktor Orban Prime Minister, who reported on all this on his own community page. According to the photo attached to the post, the prime minister is reading an article in the weekly Mandiner on the plane, in which he writes about the successes of the Hungarian national football team.
In his entry, Viktor Orbán commented on this:
There is something to draw strength from!
In connection with the two-day meeting, Balázs Orbán, the political director of the Prime Minister, said that on Thursday, the European heads of state and government will meet with the leaders of the Western Balkans for the first time. This will be followed by a European Council meeting focusing on the fact that the issue of EU enlargement has become relevant again.
On the community side of Balázs Orbán, he also mentioned that so far the states of the western balkans were closest to joining the european union, and negotiations have already begun with the republic of north macedonia, montenegro and serbia.
Their actual accession to the EU is still protracted, but the Ukraine-Russia war may now give new impetus to the slowdown in enlargement policy since Croatia’s accession.
Balázs Orbán reminded him that Hungary had already supported the issue of EU enlargement to the Balkans ten years ago, during the Hungarian EU Presidency. He also added that Hungary has already made it clear that it agrees with the EU’s proposal to grant Ukraine and Moldova EU candidate status.
Viktor Orbán recently informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that he will take this position at the EU summit as well, so Hungary supports Ukraine’s EU candidate status.
