The production of grains grown in the second harvest and winter cereals should increase in the South Mato Grosso crops, as released by Conab (National Supply Company) during the 8th survey of the 2021/2022 harvest. According to the updated figures, the State should reach a production of 20.7 million tons, 9.1% more than the previous harvest, when it reached 18.9 million tons. The current grain harvest in the country is forecast at 270.2 million tons.

The result, according to the study released this week by the company, is due to the climatic behavior from March onwards, which presents rainfall with volume and, mainly, distribution, suitable for the good development of crops.

With regard to corn, the estimated production of the 2nd crop in the state shows an increase of 2.4% in relation to the previous survey, exceeding 11 million tons. The fact stems from the expectation of higher average local productivity of the crop, situated at 5,100 kg/ha.

Sorghum appears with a new increase in cultivated area, in the order of 11.7%, as the producers took advantage of the available soil moisture and the longer sowing window of this cereal to expand the crops.

On the other hand, wheat and beans 2nd harvest show a reduction in the productive area compared to the previous harvest, mainly justified by the high production costs of these crops and the lower availability of seed saved in the previous cycle due to the low productivity and quality of the grains, which were heavily impacted by the frost at the end of June last year. With regard to productivity, it is estimated that it will return to normal levels.

For oats, initial information shows a slight increase in planted area, since there are no major investments in production, since producers use saved seeds, mostly without fertilization, in plots of lower fertility and carry out basic pest control. and diseases. If the weather presents good behavior and the price remains at levels that provide economic return, they carry out the harvest, otherwise, it is used only as ground cover.
