The long wait is over. Finally this Sunday, after four and a half years, Qatar and Ecuador kicked off the 2022 World Cup. The visiting team was left with a 2-0 victory with a brace from captain Enner Valencia. This Monday the action continues with three commitments: Netherlands – Senegal, for group A; England – Iran and the United States – Wales, the latter two for group B.
As for the rest of the commitments throughout the competition, THE NATION presents a mathematical model developed by the Institute of Calculation of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), which predicts the chances each team has of winning a gameas well as becoming champion. According to said study, the Netherlands, England and the United States are the candidates to keep the three points in their respective matches on date 1:
To obtain these values, more than 2,300 matches from 71 teams were analyzed.. They were taken into account Match results from the 2014 Brazil World Cup of all participating teams (greater weight is given to the results of the most recent matches, so a team that has been winning has a greater advantage than one that has been declining); and the strength of attack and defense of each one of those classified according to the goals they scored and conceded, among other sections. In addition, the simulator also takes into account the results of the matches played during the 2022 World Cup, and this will be reflected in the calculations that are obtained as the World Cup progresses.
