DOHA (AFP).- The German Football Federation (DFB) replaced the logo of the REWE supermarket company on Fridaywhich broke its sponsorship with the DFB due to the controversy with the inclusive bracelet “One Love”by the campaign logo itself. After REWE’s sponsorship was terminated six weeks before the initial end of the contract with the DFB, the federation seized “the opportunity, also in the context of the almost daily press conferences in Qatar, to maintain its position in the One Love campaign,’” he explained in a statement.
By behind Kai Havertz and Julian Brandt, Mannschaft players present before the media, the One Love logo, a multicolored heart, in favor of inclusion and diversity, appeared in the midst of other sponsors of the federation. Manuel Neuer wanted to wear that inclusive bracelet, but the Germans had given up, facing the threat of possible sporting sanctions.
Before the first match against Japan, lost 2-1, Germany’s starting eleven players posed for the official photo with their hands in front of their mouths, imitating a gag against the ban on demonstrating in favor of diversity, a gesture clearly aimed at the FIFA. In the box, German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser wore the One Love bracelet alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
Before Japan, the situation led the players of the “Mannschaft” to cover their mouths with their hands in the official photograph as a protest for what they considered censorship by FIFA. The image of the German players covering their mouths, for many “the photo of the day”, could not be seen during the official broadcastl of the match between Germany and Japan on various channels covering the World Cup.
In Italy, Rai 2 made reference to it when averaging the first half because the international transmission of FIFA did not show it, while the viewers of the Ard station were able to partially observe it, although only those who had the “personalized” device of the transmission.
