Gymnastics athletes from the Capital will participate this Saturday (6), at 8 am, in the Regional Tournament of Rhythmic Gymnastics Midwest, at Colégio Nossa Senhora Auxiliadora. This stage of the tournament will be broadcast online and is valid for the national stage, which will be held in person in the city of São Paulo.
To prepare for the competition, the 24 gymnasts, from 9 to 18 years old, train from Monday to Friday, from 1 pm to 5 pm, at Parque Jacques da Luz. The athletes are part of a city hall project that encourages sport. In 2021, young women ranked fifth in the national competition. “My expectation is to qualify both in the individual and in the adult trio and continue this wonderful journey that is sport, with all my heart and love and hope to win”, commented one of the gymnasts, Maria Gimenes.
Gymnastics teacher Adenizia Julião said that this year’s goal is to overcome the last national competition. “The regional tournament qualifies the girls for the national one. We train the girls all year for this competition, so those girls who qualify at this stage go on to the national stage that will be held in São Paulo,” she says.
The Funesp project has been in operation since 2010, has classes from initiation to performance, with classes in the morning and afternoon, from Monday to Friday, at Parque Jacques da Luz, in addition to having specialized teachers in the modality. There, 150 girls from 5 to 18 years old train.
