Omikron: Puchhammer-Stöckl is more for tests of the vulnerable

In view of the rapidly increasing coronavirus infections, Elisabeth Puchhammer-Stöckl, Head of the Center for Virology at MedUni Vienna, spoke out in favor of rethinking the test strategy in an interview that was widespread in advance. From their point of view, the strategy should “focus more on vulnerable groups”, so that one is more likely to diagnose and test freely, “but not test everyone who then feels safe but is then possibly highly infectious”.

She said that in the recording of the program “Milborn” Puls4which airs on Wednesday evening at 9:15 p.m. “The virus multiplies so quickly that if you had a test yesterday morning, you cannot be sure that you are not a superspreader today,” argued Puchhammer-Stöckl in view of the Omikron variant.

Due to the rapid increase in infections, it would no longer work out over time “that you can say that you are now safe for two days”.
