Judo and Olympic wrestling athletes secured their first medals for Mato Grosso do Sul last Wednesday (13th), at the 2021 Brazilian University Games (JUBs) held in Brasília. The fighters who took the podium won two golds, one silver and one bronze.
In her debut in wrestling, known as an Olympic wrestling, Assíria Daniela Maurício da Silva won the gold medal in the 53 kg category, in the women’s freestyle. In the same modality, Amanda Lima Leal also climbed to the highest place on the podium, in the category up to 57 kg, in the women’s freestyle.
The other medals came in judo, Maria Fernanda Pio Sabbo won a silver medal in the welterweight category, up to 63 kg. The other medal of the modality was secured by Karla Rocha de Oliveira, who competed in the heavyweight category, above 78 kg and won the bronze.
University disputes continue in the Federal Capital. The delegation from Mato Grosso do Sul, which has the support of Fundesporte (Sport and Leisure Foundation of Mato Grosso do Sul), is still seeking medals in various modalities at the largest university sports event in Latin America.
