The Portuguese Patrícia Mamona ensured, this Friday morning, the presence in the final of the triple jump of the European Athletics Championships on indoor track, taking place in Istanbul, Turkey, where she will defend the title won in Torun2021.
With 14.09 meters, one centimeter from the direct qualification mark, in her first attempt, the 34-year-old Olympic runner-up advanced to the final, scheduled for Saturday, from 16:50 in Lisbon.
Patrícia Mamona finished qualifying in second place, with the same 14.09m as Turkish Tugba Damismaz, after a null jump and having given up on the third attempt.
The national record holder, with the 14.53m that won her the European title two years ago, is disputing her sixth Europeans indoorbecoming the second most attended Portuguese event, only surpassed by former sprinter Luís Cunha, who was in seven, between 1985 and 1992 – between 1985 and 1990 they were played every year.
The Sporting athlete arrived in Istanbul in first place in the ranking among those entered and with the best European mark of the year, on par with the Ukrainian Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk (absent from the competition), with the 14.41m achieved in the Club Nationals, in last February.
