Peru appoints Carlos Gil de Montes ambassador to Portugal

Lima, Oct 14 (EFE) .- The government of Peruvian President Pedro Castillo appointed Oswaldo de Rivero as ambassador to the United States and Carlos Gil de Montes, both career diplomats in Portugal, according to the resolution published this Thursday in the official newspaper El Peruano.

De Rivero will receive the credentials and full powers, after his official appointment, in accordance with the supreme resolution signed by the president and the chancellor, Oscar Maúrtua.

The appointment of the ambassador comes a day after Maúrtua’s meeting with the United States ambassador to Peru, Lisa Kenna, where the mutual interest in continuing to deepen cooperation ties was reaffirmed.

“The ties of friendship and economic complementarity between Peru and the United States, thanks to the approval granted by that country, will continue to advance hand in hand with our new ambassador in Washington, Oswaldo de Rivero,” the Foreign Ministry said on its Twitter profile.

De Rivero is a veteran Peruvian diplomat who has been Peru’s representative ambassador to the International Trade Organization in Geneva and to the United Nations Security Council in New York, as well as representing the country in other countries.

Along with his career at the Foreign Ministry, he has written essays and works on international relations and development.

On the other hand, the Executive also appointed as ambassador to Portugal the diplomat Carlos Gil de Montes Molinari, who will also receive the corresponding credentials and full powers.

De Montes has 32 years of experience in the Peruvian Foreign Ministry, having served in the diplomatic missions in Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Colombia and Spain.
