Pope Juan Pablo I, whose pontificate lasted only 33 days, will be blessed, after what Francisco the decree that recognizes a miracle through her intercession and related to the healing of an Argentine girl was approved.
Albino Luciani was born in 1912, was elected pope on August 26, 1978 and died unexpectedly 33 days later, so his pontificate was one of the shortest in history.
The miracle for which Luciani will be proclaimed blessed refers to the supposed unexplained healing of an Argentine girl who suffered from a serious brain pathology.
The journalist and vice postulator of the cause for canonization Stefania Falasca announced a few weeks ago in the religious newspaper “Avvenire” that the medical council that examined the case of the Argentine girl “ruled unanimously that the cure it was scientifically inexplicable ”.
Albino Luciani’s cause for canonization was opened in November 2003, twenty-five years after his death, and ended in November 2017 with the decree sanctioned by Pope Francis, which proclaimed the heroic virtues of John Paul I.
At the end of November of that same year, the diocesan investigation started in 2016 in the Argentine diocese of Buenos Aires in which the “miracle” was examined through the intercession of Pope Luciani in 2011 also ended. So that Pope Luciani was later declared a saint his intercession would need to be proved in a new miracle.
In addition, Francisco authorized the decree of the miracle attributed to the intercession of the Venerable Servant of God Maria Berenice Duke Hencker, Founder of the Congregation of the Little Sisters of the Annunciation. It approved the recognition of the martyrdom of the Servants of God Pedro Ortiz de Zárate, diocesan priest, and Juan Antonio Solinas, priest of the Society of Jesus, murdered by hatred of the faith on October 27, 1683 in the Zenta Valley, in the Argentina.
The Holy Father also recognized the heroic virtues of the Servant of God Diego Hernandez Gonzalez, diocesan priest, of the Servant of God Giuseppe Spoletini, of the Servant of God Magdeleine of Jesus, of the Servant of God Elisabetta Martinez.
