Pro League: Genk beaten by the red lantern

The Beerschot won 2-0 against Genk for the last meeting of the 15th day of Jupiler Pro League on Sunday. Lawrence Shankland (4th) and Moises Caicedo (90th + 2) scored the victory goals for the Antwerpers who clinched their second success of the season. The Beerschot started the meeting on the hats of wheels. After creating a first chance, Raphael Holshauzer perfectly served Lawrence Shankland who gave the Rats the lead (4th). Led by the score, the Limburgers put their foot on the ball and the pressure on the Antwerp goal but neither Joseph Paintsil nor Kristian Thorstvedt deceived Mike Vanhamel.

In the second half, Genk was still the most dominant and Paul Onuachu found the frame of Vanhamel’s goal a few seconds after the restart. Jostled, the Beerschot tried to be dangerous against but Marius Noubissi missed the 2-0 before Ramiro Vaca found the post a quarter of an hour from the end.

John van den Brom, the Limburg coach, then tried everything for the round by bringing in Ike Ugbo alongside Paul Onuachu. Clumsy in front of the Antwerp goal, the Genkois had to finally concede a second goal in stoppage time. On a clearance from Vanhamel, Moises Caicedo (90th + 2) played against Maarten Vandevoort to offer a second success this season to the number 13.
