Public Health refutes statistics of COVID-19 deaths from the JCE

The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) affirmed this Wednesday that the number of deaths from covid-19 in the Dominican Republic is 4,022 and not 8,656 as stated in the civil registry of the Central Electoral Board (JCE).

At a press conference, the director of the General Directorate of Epidemiology (Digepi), Ronald Skewes, assured that the electoral body registers deaths from coronavirus that do not comply with the parameters established by the World Health Organization (WHO) to notify a death as a result of viral disease.

“There are many who do not have any type of test, who do not have anything, even many who do not even have symptoms and that all they say is they died of covid,” he said.

He stated that the country is subject to international conventions that establish the points that deaths caused by the Sars Cov 2 virus must meet.

According to the specialist, to confirm a death from coronavirus, laboratory tests and tomographies must be carried out to confirm that the deceased suffered from the infectious-contagious pathology.
