The announcement was made by the mayor Gustavo Tailor, who said that “it fills us with pride to be able to host such a high-ranking competition, for which we are preparing because it is an excellent opportunity to show that Puerto Madryn has all the conditions and resources to host this type of tournament” .
The communal chief assured that “For some time now, we from Madrid have set ourselves the goal of including the different nautical disciplines in the sports calendar, taking advantage of the natural setting that we have off our coasts”.
At the event, the Mayor was accompanied by the president of the South Atlantic Yacht Club, Fernando Terraza; the president of Chubut Deportes, Gustavo Hernández; the Secretary of Education, Culture and Sports, Diego González; the representative of the Foil Windsurf Class, Fermín Sarasa, and the head of the Argentine Naval Prefecture, Oscar Ernesto Finelli.
Meanwhile, through videoconference were the president of the Yachting Federation, Luis Velasco; Fernando Consorte, athlete and president of the Argentine Windsurf Association.
Puerto Madryn is located in the center of the enormous circle that makes up the Golfo Nuevo, on the northeast of Chubut and is the third city in number of inhabitants in the district. It offers an ideal environment for sailing sports off its coast and the persistent wind demands the skill of surfers.
“We have the objective of having a world Windsurf date and we are managing about that because we have what to do with”, Sastre acknowledged.
The city is the tourist capital of the Peninsula Valdés region with an accommodation capacity that exceeds 6,000 hotel beds and is one of the ports of call for cruise ships.
