The Argentine Professional League title already has an owner, despite the fact that there are still a few days ahead: River Plate crushed Racing Club and managed to win the crown this season. The victory took place under the massive presence of fans at the Monumental Stadium and the celebrations did not take long to begin.
The night was perfect for those led by Marcelo Gallardo and although they only needed a draw to secure the title, they took to the field to show their best football. That is how they managed to thrash thanks to goals from Agustín Palavecino, Julián Álvarez and a double from Braian Romero.
After the final whistle, all the people linked to River Plate on the playing field began with the celebrations. This time, they wore a special hat, black in color and adorned with the club’s colors. The chants and applause began to fall from the stands, giving the night a special glow.
The squad was very excited, as they tried to approach every corner of the imposing Monumental Stadium to greet all the fans, who only a few weeks ago had started to attend. The control that was established over the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) allowed this hubbub.
In this way, Marcelo Gallardo achieved his first local tournament title as a coach, one of the few outstanding accounts of this era, which began on May 30, 2014 and which had already added twelve trophies to the ‘Millionaire’ showcases: 2 Libertadores Cups (2015 and 2018), 1 South American Cup (2014), 3 South American Recopas (2015, 2016 and 2019), 1 Suruga Bank Cup (2015), 3 Argentine Cups (2016, 2017 and 2019) and 2 Argentine Super Cups (2017 and 2019).
