The Dutch royal family has a golden carriage that is traditionally used on Prinsjesdag, where the king delivers the Speech from the Throne (the government’s main plans for the coming year, red.). On the left side of that carriage is a controversial image of slavery, which causes a lot of discussion among our northern neighbors. King Willem Alexander has now made a decision about the use of the golden carriage and explained this himself in a video message.

“The Golden Coach will only be able to drive again when the Netherlands is ready for it and that is not the case now,” said the Dutch head of state. But making the coach disappear completely doesn’t seem like the plan. “It makes no sense to judge and disqualify what has happened through the lens of our time,” it sounds. “Simply banning historical objects and symbols is certainly not a solution either.”

“I loved it,” Delphine says in the documentary. ”Not because of what he was. I didn’t care that he was a prince; i loved his character. It would have been even easier if he hadn’t been a prince, I wouldn’t have had to hide.”

In the remaining episodes, the princess will talk about the moment in 2001 when her father broke off contact and about the years-long legal battle for recognition.

Kate Middleton received birthday wishes from around the world for her 40th birthday last week, but only one special girl got a personal response from the Duchess of Cambridge on… Twitter.

Six-year-old Mila Sneddon and Kate have developed a friendship after Mila’s participation in the Hold stillphotography project in 2020. Mila was then undergoing chemotherapy for acute leukemia.

She recorded a video message wishing the Duchess a happy birthday. Mila’s mom shared the video on Twitter on Sunday.

“Happy birthday Catherine!” says Mila. “I’m so happy you’re turning 40 and I hope you get nice gifts and spend a lot of time with your family. Goodbye and much love.”

Mila got a royal response in the form of a personal reply from Kate via Kate’s official Twitter account and Prins William: “Thank you Mila!”
