Samuel García obtains protection against impeachment promoted by PAN and PRI in NL

With the amparo granted by a Tamaulipas court, the impeachment trial that the Congress of Nuevo León had requested against Samuel García was prevented from going ahead.

Mexico City, February 10 (YET) .– Faustino Gutiérrez Pérez, Eighth District Judge of Tamaulipasawarded a protection to the Governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García Sepúlvedaso that not being subjected to a impeachment promoted by the local Congress, where today he had scheduled a hearing to which he replied in writing.

Today was the deadline for the appearance of the political trial against the president of Movimiento Ciudadano, which the Anti-Corruption Commission of the local Congress considered fulfilled, despite the fact that the Governor did not attend in person and answered in writing.

García’s absence and writing sparked a debate between legislators from the Movimiento Ciudadano (MC), who were seeking to cancel the start of the hearing, and deputies from the National Action Party (PAN), the main opposition party in Nuevo León.

Jesús Gómez Reyes, Deputy of the PAN and president of the aforementioned commission, explained that the letter was received today at 4:27 p.m., and that with this he was given as a written appearance in the trial.

For their part, the EMECist legislators, Sandra Pámanes Ortiz and Iraís Reyes de la Torre, MC deputies, demanded that the hearing be canceled, because an official letter was received at 3:43 p.m. from the Governor’s Legal Department, in which the suspension was announced in favor of García Sepúlveda, so that the hearing would not be held. By not canceling, they accused factious handling of that documentation and that it was intended to process the report of the

The judge’s suspension was delivered a few hours after the hearing that García had to attend or send a legal representative, and where he had to clarify the delay in the publication of the 2023 Expenditure Law and his refusal to publish 56 decrees approved by Congress in the Official State Newspaper.

In this way, the impeachment that the local Congress had requested against Samuel García is prevented from continuing.

Movimiento Ciudadano has supported its Governor and has accused that this process is a “political revenge” by pointing out a series of irregularities contained in the lawsuit complaint filed by federal deputies Annia Sarahí Gómez Cárdenas, from the PAN, and José Luis Garza Ochoa, who is also the state president of the PRI.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador himself has closed ranks with García Sepúlveda. “He is resisting a pressure that has to do with blackmail, what the Moches were like before: that the budget had to be given to the parties, even the deputies were given the Moche to obtain the votes and to approve the budget,” assured the first president.

Samuel García has had to deal with Congress since he came to power. Movimiento Ciudadano currently only has 11 deputies, while the PAN, which has 14, and the PRI, 13, have joined forces in this instance to block the president. The conflict between both powers has been constant and has prevented the approval of the entity’s Prosecutor and more recently generated a clash for the approval of this year’s Budget.
