60-year-old cyclist pulled over, injured and abandoned - 31-year-old handcuffed

The Police have arrested a 31-year-old man, who is allegedly related to the serious injury of a 60-year-old man in a traffic collision. The 60-year-old was found by members of the Police, last Thursday, seriously injured and lying on the road, in an area of ​​Nicosia district, where he was riding his bicycle.

Specifically, around 4:10 a.m. on Thursday, August 4, information was received that a cyclist was injured on a road in the area of ​​Agios Ioannis Maloundas. Members of the Police rushed to the scene, where they found the 60-year-old man, as it was later determined, fallen on the street and injured in the head. An ambulance crew transported him to Nicosia General Hospital, where he is still hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit, in critical condition.

From the examinations carried out at the scene by members of the Cleros Police Station, suspicions were raised that the 60-year-old cyclist may have been injured after a traffic collision with another passing vehicle. Evidence was taken from the scene for examination, including an object believed to have been cut from the body of a vehicle, which was located meters away from where the 60-year-old cyclist had fallen.

During the investigation, testimony emerged that a specific vehicle, the responsible driver of which is the 31-year-old, may be related to the traffic collision. The 31-year-old was arrested yesterday afternoon, with a court warrant, and was taken into custody for the purposes of police examinations. The respondent mentioned allegations that are being investigated.

Also for the purposes of police examinations, his specific vehicle was seized and impounded, with which the part of the vehicle body, which had been identified by the members of the Police, during the examination of the scene, appears to be connected.

The Kliros Police Station is continuing the examination.
