The meetings of the Cyprus Sports Writers Association (EAK) with the political parties, with the main topic of discussion being the inclusion of sports journalists in the social dialogue for the enacted Cypriot sports legislation, continued.
On Friday, June 3, 2022, a delegation of EAK, consisting of President Herodotus Miltiadous and General Secretary Mikaelos Papadakis met with the President of the Democratic Party (DIKO) Mr. Nikola Papadopoulos. Present at the meeting were the MP and member of the education committee Mr. Chrysanthos Savvidis and the chairman of the DIKO sports committee Mr. Andreas Vassilios.
On the same day, Messrs. Miltiadous and Papadakis met with the president of the Democratic Party (DIPA) Mr. Mario Karoyan. Also present were the member of the political council Mr. Andreas Themistokleous and the secretary Mr. Antonis Roussakis.
The meetings continued on Friday, June 10, with the delegation of EAK consisting of the president Herodotos Miltiadous and the treasurer Mario Hadjistyllis to meet with the president of the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation Mr. Charalambos Theopemptou. The member of the central committee of the movement, Mr. Efi Xanthou, was also present at the meeting.
The presidents of DIKO, DIPA and Ecologists were presented by EAK with the necessity of including the journalists of sports reporting in the enacted sports legislation and suggestions were made to it. In addition, through the dialogue were discussed various issues of strengthening the professional branches of sports writing in Cyprus, which numbers almost 300 families in our country.
The president of EAK, Herodotos Miltiadou, said about the meetings: “We are very satisfied in EAK for the positivity we received from the three meetings we had last week. Messrs. Nikolas Papadopoulos, Marios Karoyan and Charalambos Theopemptou, together with their teams, welcomed us in an exceptional way and with a very positive approach to what we mentioned to them. These meetings, as well as those that preceded with DISY and AKEL and of course our longtime partner KOA, were held with the aim of strengthening our union, in a very difficult period for the employees of the area “.
We remind you that in the previous period, EAK met with the Deputy President of DISY Mr. Harry Georgiadis and the parliamentary representative of AKEL Mr. George Loukaidis.
The Cyprus Sports Writers’ Association (EAK) was founded in 1973 and is the professional association of 300 sports journalists. Since 1974 it has the privilege to organize the Festival of Excellence, while every year it organizes dozens of activities, for the benefit of its members and the sports community of Cyprus.
