Although caring for the planet and the environment has always been among the interests of El Comercio, in this 2022 we want to achieve a change in the behavior of citizens in this regard.
For this, for several weeks now the Science section was renamed Our Planetin order to address information related to the efforts being made by both individuals and national and international companies to take care of the world in which we live.

As part of these changes, we started the #YoReciclo campaign, with which we seek to make Peruvians aware of the importance of recycling and waste management to reduce environmental pollution.
This campaign has been created by El Comercio in alliance with Reciqlo, a technology company that develops products for agriculture from recycled glass.
“It is clear that our current economic system of extracting, producing, consuming and disposing is leading the world to an almost irreversible environmental and climate crisis. In this model, millions of tons of waste are generated, and there is little reuse and recycling. The circular economy is presented as a great solution to eliminate waste from the system and extend the useful life of materials. For this reason, together with El Comercio we created this campaign to educate the population about the circular economy and raise awareness of the importance of recycling. We intend to increase the amount of materials that are recycled in Peru and avoid collapsing landfills”says Carolina Duque, Director of Technology at Reciqlo.
The #YoReciclo campaign will continue, in principle, until November of this year. During this period, the publication of journalistic notes will be constant, but will be defined by monthly themes.
After spending April to publish articles related to the recycling of glass, June will go to plastic recycling, August to paper recycling and October to cardboard recycling. We will publish two journalistic notes each month about it.
In May, July, September and November, a note will be published each month on issues of recycling in general.
The campaign will have a presence on social networks and special events and other activities have been planned.
“With #YoReciclo we seek to promote the care of the planet, the preservation of our resources, biodiversity, and encourage citizen commitment through sustainable actions. We invite you to be part of this movement”Duke emphasizes.
