Microsoft recently introduced the second generation of the smallest and cheapest Surface Laptop Go laptop and sent us one piece for testing. When I returned to my one-and-a-half-year-old first-generation review, I found that I would just repeat myself in most of the description. Notebook Surface Laptop Go 2 looks the same as the previous Go, offers the same color-excellent display with lower resolution, and suffers from the same trade-offs as an unlit keyboard or just a fingerprint reader.
Surface Laptop Go 2 (8QF-00038)
Intel Core i5-1135G7 ● Iris Xe ● 8 GB DDR4 ● 12.45 “1536 × 1024 IPS glossy touch (brightness 350 nits, dE 1.51) ● 256 GB SSD ● USB-C, USB 3.0, audio, Surface connector ● 802.11ax 2 × 2, Bluetooth 5.0 ● 41.7 Wh ● 27.8 × 20.6 × 1.57 cm ● 1.11 kg
The main novelty of the second generation is the Core i5-1135G7 processor, ie with much better graphics performance even for some lighter gaming, as well as a lower starting price of less than twenty thousand for the recommended version with 8 GB of memory and 128 GB SSD. But the first generation with the i5-1035G1 processor and 128GB drive is now over CZK 15,990 to CZK 19,990.
The second generation Surface Laptop Go 2 looks exactly like the first. At first glance, it differs only thanks to the new generation of Windows 11
Of course, I have traditionally measured the novelty thoroughly and you will not lose this data, but to describe the notebook and demonstrate its functions, read the older review, it is still valid for the new generation.
You don’t even have to do anything on your laptop while charging, and the fan starts to heat up and spin anyway. Previous generations did the same
Who is that squirrel for?
With my hands free, I’d like to focus on what Surface Laptop Go 2 actually means in the current notebook offering. What makes sense not a cheap (just under 20,000 for a usable configuration) but a small laptop.
The connector menu does not change. USB 3.0, USB-C, audio and Surface connector
Microsoft introduced the first generation at a time of closed schools and active anti-drug measures. Surface Laptop Go aimed mainly at home education, where you will appreciate the touch screen and the basic performance of the Core i5-1035G1 processor, which tightens video conferencing with the entire connected class. The second generation mainly improves the graphics performance of the Core i5-1135G7 processor, and although it looks at the same group, nowadays I think the Surface Laptop Go 2 will find a wider audience.
