Melco Cyprus organized seabed cleaning in the Port of Ayia Napa

The event was held with the support of the Ministry of Tourism and the cooperation of local organizations

Cyprus, Tuesday 21 June 2022 – Melco Cyprus, the company that undertook the development and operation of Cyprus Casinos (“C2”) and the City of Dreams Mediterranean, the first multidisciplinary resort in Cyprus, organized a seabed cleaning in the Port of Ayia Napa, on Sunday 19 June. The action is part of a series of Melco initiatives aimed at reducing marine litter and raising public awareness of the effects of pollution on the Mediterranean ecosystem.

During the event, Melco volunteers and staff dived into the sea in Ayia Napa Harbor to remove debris from the seabed, such as plastic bags, bottles and cans.

The cleanup was organized by Melco Cyprus and the Nautilus CMAS Limassol Diving Club, with the support of the Ministry of Tourism. The Cyprus Federation of Underwater Activities and the SeaQuest Divers Club also participated in the initiative.

Christodoulos Papachristodoulou, Tourism Officer in the Strategy, Marketing & International Relations Department of the Ministry of Tourism, said: “The Ministry of Tourism congratulates the organizers of the event and the volunteers who participated in the underwater cleaning in the Port of Ayia Napa and assures that it will assist in similar actions aimed at improving the quality of sea water. The Ministry of Tourism has included Diving Tourism as a special priority product in the framework of the National Tourism Strategy 2020 – 2030. To this end, it is proceeding with a series of actions aimed at upgrading the quality of the product and services provided to visitors and local divers.
