Netflix is serious about games. An adaptation of Queen is in the works

Netflix is putting together a new game studio in Los Angeles, and according to its ads, it doesn’t look like there’s a mobile game coming this time. It is headed by Chacko Sonny, who worked as an executive producer for the Overwatch event. An analyst for live service games has also appeared among the positions for directors and engineers. Their project is described as “brand new AAA PC game”.

Players these days don’t like to hear the phrase live service very much, but it cannot be denied that a number of hits, led by Fortnite or League of Legends, work successfully on this model. The new product from Netflix is supposed to be built on Unreal Engine, and in one of the ads it is described as an action RPG from a third-person perspective. There is also a good chance that it will be a free-to-play title.

Speculation is that Netflix wants to create a strong enough brand to be able to work on it as part of movies and series. At the same time, it would make more sense for us if they used one of the established brands. They have a number of them in their portfolio, and fans can certainly imagine a big game from more than one Netflix universe. Since we are still looking for team members, we will see the result in a few years. For now, we’ll have to make do with the games in the mobile app.
