Apple just released the Self Service Repair Storean initiative that had already promised recently that consists of those clients with iPhone can access the company’s repair manuals from their homes in order to fix their devices from home.

Apparently, Apple wants to join the “right to repair” initiativeheaded by the Repair Association of the United States – seeks the approval of laws to guarantee it – until the moment of seeing the cost of the parts.

With scheduled obsolescence the order of the day -the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) proposed its total ban in 2013-, excessive prices and very few facilities for repairing faults, Apple could launch this new method at more attractive and affordable prices , But it has not been that way. You will no longer depend on the technical service but the costs will be very similar.

For now Apple launched Self Service Repair in the United States, although he assures that in just a few months it will be extended to Europe. While there are no confirmations of his landing in Latin America.

The program covers up to now the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 as well as the third generation iPhone SE, although the company has announced that it will add more devices.

Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer, said that “having greater access to the same parts that Apple uses will give our customers more options to repair their devices when they need it.”

Williams added that “in the last three years, Apple has nearly doubled the number of places where you can access the same parts, tools and training that Apple uses, and now we’re giving more options to those who want to do their own repairs.”

The Self Service Repair works as follows: you have to request self-service repair and you will have access to the manuals corresponding to your damaged device. Then you must order from Apple the necessary parts, as well as the tools to carry out the repair, which will be exactly the same as those used by Apple and its network of authorized service providers.

This custom tool pack can be buy or rent for a week for $49, with shipping and returns paid by the company. At the moment in Spain we must wait to fix the devices ourselves but it will be interesting to see how the new service works in the United States.
