Freiburg, Union Berlin and Gladbach started the year in the best possible way, beating Augsburg, Hertha and Hoffenheim respectively.
Start on the right… in the Bundesliga for Union, who won easily at home to Hertha, in the Berlin derby, with a score of 3-1. The hosts opened the scoring in the 32nd minute through Sibatse, while in the 50th minute Becker made it 2-0 for his side, with Knossos making it 3-0 four minutes later (54′). The only thing Hertha managed was to reduce the score to 3-1 in the 85th minute against Lukembakios.
Gladbach also had a winning start, beating Hoffenheim 3-1 at home. The visitors were the ones who opened the scoring, with Skov making it 1-0 in the 25th minute, while the team was playing with 10 players from the 15th minute, due to a second yellow card received by Pos. It was Bensebaini who made it 1-1 in the 42nd minute, with Thuram giving his team the lead in the 72nd minute. Elvedi made the final 3-1 in the 78th minute.
At the same time, Freiburg also celebrated the victory over Augsburg, with Christian Streich’s team winning with a score of 4-0, thanks to goals scored by Gregorić (46′), Grifo (48′), Ginder (61′ ) and Doan (79′).
