The Minister of Interior Nikos Nouris is participating in the two-day work of the 3rd International Ministerial Conference to combat the financing of terrorism, which is being held in New Delhi, with the participation of more than 70 countries as well as global institutions.
An announcement states that in his intervention on Friday, the Minister of the Interior informed about the measures taken by the Republic of Cyprus to strengthen and implement the control framework and combat the financing of terrorist acts.
He also referred to the measures and mechanisms adopted and which have been repeatedly evaluated positively by the MONEYVAL Committee of the Council of Europe.
Mr. Nouris made special reference to the illegal trafficking and trade of cultural goods, as a source of financing terrorism, characterizing it as a serious blow to the efforts to protect the world’s cultural heritage.
He also underlined the importance of implementing instruments such as the Nicosia Convention on Offenses Relating to Cultural Property, which was adopted during the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of Europe in 2017 and plays a key role in preventing the destruction and illegal trade of cultural property , worldwide.
