Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trinto has accused Vladimir Putin of being responsible for “these heinous war crimes” after visiting the Ukrainian city of Irpin earlier in the day, where Kyiv says the Russians slaughtered civilians.
“It is clear that (Russian President) Vladimir Putin is responsible for these heinous war crimes,” Trinto told a news conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv. “He must be held accountable,” he added.
Trinto announced that Canada would impose sanctions on 40 Russians and five entities that he said were “complicit” in Russia’s war in Ukraine. He also announced that his country would lift all trade tariffs on imported Ukrainian products next year, and announced that the Canadian embassy in Kyiv would reopen.
