Defender Sergio Ramos, a summer rookie still awaiting his big debut, was called up for the first time in the Paris SG group, which challenges Manchester City on Wednesday in the Champions League (9 p.m.), the club announced on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old Spaniard hasn’t played a minute in his new jersey since joining in July, due to recurring calf issues.

The former Real Madrid captain, who only played seven matches in 2021, began collective training during the international break in early November, the first step towards his return to competition.

His long unavailability has cast doubts on the ability of the 2010 world champion with the “Roja” to regain his level.

“For a world champion like Sergio Ramos, a player of his level, with his mentality it is very difficult not to play as much as he would like. But he is very strong mentally. He works very hard and we think that ‘He’s progressing well,’ coach Mauricio Pochettino said on Friday.

The quadruple winner of the C1 should start from the bench the poster of the 5th day of the Champions League, since the holders Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe also appear in the group.

Superstars Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar will also be on the trip to the North West of England, as will goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, absent from the match against Nantes on Saturday due to gastroenteritis.

Thus, Pochettino should have a full squad, which has rarely happened to him since the start of the season, due to an often full infirmary.

The only missing substitutes Rafinha and Julian Draxler, injured.

PSG play at the Etihad Stadium a “final” for first place, against the leader of his group who is ahead of him by one point two days from the end.
