Six people die in a traffic accident in Las Tunas

Havana Cuba. – A traffic accident that occurred on the afternoon of this Sunday on the Central Highway, in Las Tunas, left a balance of six people dead, according to several reports published in the Facebook group “Bus & truck accidents due to more experience and fewer victims ”.

According to user Orlando Cruz Vázquez, the accident occurred at kilometer 618 of the Central Highway, in the Majibacoa municipality. Five people died at the scene and another was transferred to the “Ernesto Guevara de la Serna” Hospital, where he died hours later, he said.

Vázquez also added that “one of the cars involved in the accident belonged to the Provincial Court of Las Tunas, while the other was for rent (TUR).” According to the official newspaper 26, one of the deceased was Daniel Cisneros Gil, president of the People’s Provincial Court of Las Tunas.

Several Facebook users highlighted the high accident rate of rental cars for tourism on the island: “eight out of ten accidents that occur have at least one tourist car involved. Will it be the drivers, or the cars that have no conditions? ”Asked user Ernesto Díaz Zaldívar.

Last Thursday, October 7, a similar traffic accident occurred in Havana, when two Soviet-made cars collided in the vicinity of the Calabazar bridge, leaving two people in a serious condition.

During the first four months of 2021, Cuba registered 2,403 traffic accidents, with a high incidence of the “human factor” in more than half of the events.

According to official figures, between January and April of this year, one person died every 20 hours and one injured every one hour and 36 minutes as a result of traffic accidents.

Reports from the Cuban authorities indicate that among the main causes of accidents on the island are the advanced age of the mobile park, poor signaling on the roads, speeding and the consumption of alcoholic beverages.
