Against the background of a sharp aggravation of the situation in the east of the country, Kiev is trying to use there new high-tech weapons received from abroad. Probably, for the first time, American anti-tank guided missiles Javelin (“Throwing spear”) and Turkish Bayraktar attack drones were used. True, according to Izvestia sources familiar with the situation, the use of American missiles turned out to be ineffective. Kiev is also actively deploying new military units to the southeast. And on November 23, two combat boats arrived in the Black Sea, which were transferred to Ukraine by the United States. At the same time, US strategic aviation practiced strikes against Russia from the east and west. At the same time, the escalation of the conflict is taking place against the backdrop of constant accusations by Moscow of preparing an invasion of Ukraine.
In recent days, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have twice tried on the front line to use weapons similar to Javelin anti-tank missiles, sources familiar with the situation told Izvestia. It was not armored vehicles that came under fire, but fortifications at the checkpoints. Both cases, according to sources, ended unsuccessfully – ammunition missed the target… But there is no exact confirmation that the Ukrainian military in both cases used the American systems, Izvestia’s interlocutors said.
The day before, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine Kirill Budanov officially confirmed in an interview with Military Times the first use of the complex on the front line.… Izvestia sent a request to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, as well as to the Pentagon with a request to confirm or deny the words of the chief of military intelligence. On the evening of November 23, the head of the press service of the United Forces, Yaroslav Melnychuk, said that the Javelin anti-tank missile systems (ATGM) supplied by the United States to Ukraine as part of a military assistance package had not yet been used in the operation zone in Donbass. According to the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhny, the Javelin anti-tank systems were used during the exercises at the Shirokiy Lan training ground.
Less than a month ago, on October 26, the General Staff of Ukraine also announced the first use of the Bayraktar attack drone against the units of the People’s Militia of the Donetsk People’s Republic and demonstrated footage of the defeat of the light towed howitzer D-30.

In recent weeks, skirmishes have intensified in the conflict zone on the contact line… On November 22, the OSCE observation mission reported that during the day it recorded 223 violations of the ceasefire in the Donetsk region and 64 cases in Luhansk. About a hundred of them are explosions caused by the use of artillery and mortars.
On Tuesday, November 23, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that foreign military advisers are arriving in Ukraine and weapons systems are being supplied not only from the United States, but also from other NATO countries.… He expressed concern about provocative actions by the Ukrainian armed forces on the line of contact and preparations for a possible military solution to the problem of Donbass.
According to the chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev, the establishment of a Western protectorate over Ukraine destroyed the country’s economy and at any moment it could flare up there so that millions of Ukrainians “will run to seek shelter in other places.”
Already during the aggravation of the situation on the contact line, another batch of ammunition and missiles, including Javelin, arrived from the United States on November 14 by air in Kiev… On Tuesday, November 23, two Island-class patrol boats were delivered to the port of Odessa. By the end of this year, another such boat should arrive, which will become the fifth in the Ukrainian Navy.
Earlier, CNN, citing sources in the administration of President Joe Biden, said that an expansion of the set of supplied weapons is being considered.… In addition to additional batches of Javelin missile systems, it is possible to expedite the provision of Kiev with Stinger portable anti-aircraft missile systems and helicopters. Ukraine is likely to receive the military-transport Mi-17, which the Pentagon previously purchased from Russia for use in Afghanistan.
Izvestia sent a request to the Pentagon with a request to confirm or deny information about the possible deployment of American military specialists in Ukraine, as well as explain how they can help the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Ukraine’s ambitions are not limited to the above. In early September, during the visit of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the United States, he requested additional support from NATO countries with high-tech weapons.… Among the main programs for the modernization of the Armed Forces presented by him are the acquisition of Western-made long-range air defense and missile defense systems, new warships, tactical missile systems and the renewal of aviation. At the same time, Kiev is ready to spend $ 4 billion on the rearmament of the fleet, army and air force, the remaining $ 39 billion over five years, he hopes to receive in the form of sponsorship and loans.
Of the other NATO members, Turkey has made the largest contribution to the armament of Ukraine. She sold 12 medium-sized drone UAVs to the country. In total, Kiev intends to purchase 48 such devices. Some of them must be produced in the country itself at an assembly plant specially built for this.
The European members of the North Atlantic Alliance are more restrained in the supply of lethal weapons to Kiev. Basically, they provide support to Ukraine with advisers and services for the preparation and training of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Since the end of October, first in the American media, and then in the statements of officials, the topic of the possibility of an imminent Russian invasion of Ukraine has been especially actively raised.… The original article about the concentration of Russian troops on the border appeared on October 30 in The Washington Post.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby soon issued a statement that the concentration of Russian forces near the Ukrainian border “continues to worry us,” noting that Washington has no understanding of the forces’ intentions.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and EU Foreign Ministry spokesman Peter Stano also spoke about closely following Russia’s actions in the border zone.
Against the background of statements by the authorities of Ukraine and the United States about the possibility of a Russian invasion, an accumulation was noted near the line of demarcation and units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Videos with the transfer of Ukrainian heavy equipment by rail regularly appear on social networks.
Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday that Russia is not going to attack anyone and that it is wrong to make such conclusions based on the movement of troops across its own territory.

The position of the United States looks hypocritical, believes ex-Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation and former UN Deputy Secretary General Sergei Ordzhonikidze.
“We are not practicing openly launching nuclear strikes on the territory of the United States,” the diplomat said in an interview with Izvestia. – We do not conduct aggressive naval exercises near their borders, we do not practice launches aimed directly at their territory. The question is who is approaching whose boundaries. We constantly see maneuvers near our borders. And despite the fact that Ukraine is not accepted into NATO, it is actually made part of this bloc, the armed forces of the alliance countries are stationed there, the army is armed with NATO weapons according to NATO standards. In fact, there is no fundamental difference between Ukraine’s formal membership in NATO and what is really happening there now.
In November, the United States held a nuclear exercise called the Global Thunder. According to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, 10 strategic bombers were using them to practice the option of using nuclear weapons against Russia almost simultaneously from the western and eastern directions, while the minimum distance from the state border of the Russian Federation was 20 km.
