Alphonso Davies: “I will be on the pitch against Belgium”

It is the Lukaku-like soap opera that animates the twenty or so Canadian followers, before Canada enters the fray against Belgium on Wednesday: Will Alphonso Davies be completely recovered from his right thigh injury, contracted with the Bayern Munich against Hertha Berlin on November 5?

While John Herdman, the Canadian coach, left the suspense hanging over Saturday afternoon at a press conference, the player responded on Sunday morning to express his certainty that he will be on the lawn of the Ahmad bin-Ali stadium.

In an interview with TSN television, Davies explained: “I feel good, I worked to come back, and I looked after myself well. If it was 50-50, we probably wouldn’t have taken the risk. But I’m ready to start.” Relaunched by the journalist, who asked him if he would be in a condition to play against Belgium, Davies replied: “Yes, I will be on the pitch against Belgium.”

At the end of the day on Sunday, Davies joined his teammates for practice. While it can’t run at full load yet, it hasn’t shown any signs of weakness. All the players were also present during a session which took place in a fairly cool atmosphere, the thermometer having fallen well below 30 degrees. A temperature that should please Herdman, who said on Saturday, smiling: “I’m not against a chill in the stadium if it’s too hot.”
