The former number 1 in the world trumped Norwegian Casper Ruud (ATP 4) in straight sets. The match turned out to be 7-5 and 6-3 in favor of Djokovic after 1 hour and 34 minutes.

In the first set, both gentlemen seemed to be heading for a tiebreak without breaks, until Djokovic still snatched Ruud’s service at a 6-5 score. In the second set, one break was enough for the Serb to get the job done.

With his sixth overall victory at the Masters, Djokovic is catching up with the now retired Roger Federer as the record winner. Previously, he was the best in 2008 in Shanghai and in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 in London. At 35, he is the oldest Masters laureate. Ruud in turn was in the final for the first time.
