ATP Rosmalen: Tim Van Rijthoven surprises by beating Daniil Medvedev in the final

The Dutchman, 205th in the world and beneficiary of an invitation, beat the Russian Daniil Medvedev, 2nd player in the world and seeded N.1, in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 in the final of this grass event endowed with 648.130 euros, Sunday, in the Netherlands. The meeting lasted 1h05. Tim Van Rijthoven, 25, was playing his first final on the ATP circuit, he who is more used to playing on the Challenger circuit, the second level of men’s tennis after the ATP tournaments.

The Dutchman succeeds Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, winner of the last edition in 2019 and beaten by Medvedev in the semi-finals this year, on the list of winners of this preparation tournament for Wimbledon.

Daniil Medvedev was playing the 24th final of his career at the age of 26. If he has 13 titles to his name, the winner of the last US Open is still looking for a first trophy in 2022.

Although beaten on Sunday, the Muscovite is sure to dislodge the Serbian Novak Djokovic from the 1st place in the world, which he had already occupied last March. It is therefore the world No.1 that David Goffin will face next week at the Halle tournament. The Belgian N.1, 41st in the world, is making his comeback there.
