Hours before the important game between VfB Stuttgart and 1. FC Köln, the fans in the city of Stuttgart are already looking forward to the game. The Schlossplatz was mainly bathed in red. We have the pictures.

When VfB Stuttgart welcomes 1. FC Köln to the season finale in the Mercedes-Benz Arena on Saturday afternoon (3.30 p.m. / live ticker), the hut in Bad Cannstatt will be full again. While Cologne is still at stake for a place in the Europa League (in the event of a win in Stuttgart and a simultaneous defeat or draw by Union Berlin against Bochum), the Swabians are still able to stay up in the league (in the event of a win against Cologne and a simultaneous defeat by Hertha against Dortmund) – the situation for the teams and the fans is correspondingly tense before the game.

Long before the game, many fans gathered in the center of Stuttgart in the best spring weather to look forward to the dramatic finale. Around noon, the Schlossplatz was already packed with football fans, with supporters of 1. FC Köln clearly outnumbering them. Fortunately, according to a spokesman for the Stuttgart police, there was no sign of hostilities or skirmishes. Most of the fans just beamed with the sun and were looking forward to an exciting season finale.

We have the pictures of the fans in our photo gallery – click through.
