“A contagious variant of the coronavirus is causing the number of infections to rise again,” the statement said. “To minimize the risk of infections and to safeguard the rest of the cycling season, the Belgian cycling federation instructs you to wear a mouth mask if you are close to the riders during the BK in Middelkerke.”
“The Belgian Championship is a big appointment for a lot of riders, but during the coming period, including the Tour de France, there are still important races on the cycling calendar,” it continues. “Riders are therefore terrified of infections, because they mean a sporting loss and a risk for the occupation and the functioning within the teams.”
Belgian Cycling therefore asks cycling fans, when they come close to the riders (past the cycling buses, on the start square or after the finish), to wear a mouth mask and to avoid physical contact.
