Russian WBA super light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol would like to have a unification fight against compatriot Artur Beterbiev. About this he declared Match TV.
“I have always said that unification is the most important thing I want. How real is the meeting with Arthur? I don’t think it’s the next fight. And I have obligations, and Bob Arum says that he has an interest to fight Beterbiev with Yarde. Let’s see what will happen next. But I have a certain desire to have a unification fight,” Bivol said.
Bivol’s coach called the fight of his ward with Beterbiev unlikely
Bivol in his last fight on May 8 defeated the Mexican Saul Alvarez, the absolute world champion in the super middleweight division. Alvarez has the right to a rematch.
On June 19, Beterbiev defeated American Joe Smith Jr. by technical knockout in the second round. He is the WBC and IBF light heavyweight champion, and the WBO title that belonged to Smith also departed to the Russian.
After the victory, Beterbiev announced that he wanted to fight Bivol. The winner of this potential bout could become the undisputed light heavyweight champion of the world. Before the fight with Smith, promoter Bob Arum said that the winner of this fight will meet with the mandatory contender for the WBO title Briton Anthony Yarde.
