Three-time Olympic champion in cross-country skiing Alexander Bolshunov is disappointed that Russian athletes will not be able to take part in international competitions this season. About this he declared Norwegian TV channel TV2.
“I am of course disappointed that we will not be able to take part in the World Cup and the World Championship. Those athletes who are now going to Ruka (the World Cup starts in this Finnish city. — RBC) may be able to put themselves in our position. I would like to see their reaction,” Bolshunov said.
Stepanova praised the removal of Russian skiers with the phrase “hidden good”
The skier believes that sport should unite, and not vice versa. “People in the West should stop blaming us Russians for everything. Maybe we need support instead? Sport is the world, sport should unite people and nothing more, ”said Bolshunov.
The athlete added that in the absence of the Russians, the medals at the World Cup stages will be played without competitive struggle. “You can just look at the results of last season. I often think that I can’t compete for victory in the World Cup, ”concluded Bolshunov.
On October 22, the Council of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) extended the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions for the upcoming season. It was noted that FIS was guided by the safety of other participants and the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Bolshunov last season took second place in the overall standings of the World Cup, among women the best was Russian Natalya Nepryaeva.
