Since 2017, 4,943 victims of sexual violence have found their way to care centers, said Federal Minister of Health Frank Vandenbroucke (Vooruit) and Secretary of State for Equal Opportunities Sarah Schlitz (Ecolo) on Monday during the opening of the seventh care center for victims of sexual violence (CPVS) in Louvain. More than six out of ten victims lodge a complaint. The figures cover the period from October 2017 to December 2021, when a total of five CPVS were open (Ghent, Antwerp, Charleroi, Liège and Brussels). In March this year, a sixth center was opened in Roeselare. Data on this center is not yet included in these figures. The seventh center, that of Louvain, was officially inaugurated on Monday, the victims will be able to go there from next Wednesday.
The average age of registered victims is 24 years old. The youngest was two months old and the oldest 86 years old. Thirty percent were minors.
