Sports director of Spartak Luca Cattani declared at a press conference that he could leave the club in the event of poor results under the new head coach Guillermo Abascal or even earlier. Cattani’s words are quoted by Match TV.
When asked if he would leave if the new coach failed, Cattani replied: “Of course. Maybe even earlier.”
“I understood all the rules here, any decision is a risk. Even raise the pen above the table. I talked with him (Abaskal) and perfectly understand the level of his training and the level of his headquarters. Are you saying he is young? Tedesco came at 34. And he was one of the best here,” Cattani said.
Cattani joined Spartak in December 2021, at the same time Paolo Vanoli became the head coach of the red-whites, who terminated the agreement with the club at the end of the season. On 10 June, the club announced the appointment of Abascal.
The CEO of Spartak assessed the risks of Abaskal’s sudden departure from the team
Abascal is 33 years old, he began his coaching career in the Sevilla youth team, headed the Swiss Chiasso and Lugano, the Italian Ascoli and the Greek Volos, and last season he worked at Basel since February.
Spartak won the Russian Cup last season and finished tenth in the Premier League.
